What you'll accomplish

By the end of this guide, you'll know how to use Claude as your first call when a warning light comes on or something sounds wrong — to get a quick diagnosis, understand the severity, research a reasonable repair cost, and walk into a shop without feeling like you'll get taken advantage of.

What you'll need

  • A free Claude account at claude.ai or the Claude app on your phone
  • Your truck's year, make, and engine model (e.g., "2019 Peterbilt 389 with Cummins X15")
  • Time needed: 5 minutes to get started; 3-5 minutes per diagnostic question
  • Cost: Free

How-To Guide: Use Claude to Research Truck Problems and Repair Costs

Step 1: Know Your Truck Details Before You Ask

The more specific you are, the better Claude's answer. Know:

  • Year, make, model of the truck (e.g., 2018 Kenworth T680)
  • Engine make and model (e.g., Paccar MX-13, Cummins ISX15, Detroit DD15)
  • Approximate mileage
  • Any fault codes shown on your dashboard or instrument cluster

Fault codes are the most useful. They look like: SPN 3364/FMI 18, P20EE, or DEF Fault Code 3251. Write it down exactly.
