For CDL-A Truck Drivers ·
What you'll accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll have Claude set up with your personal trucking business details — your preferred lanes, minimum rate, equipment type, and blacklisted brokers — so you can paste a list of loads from the board and get an instant ranking of which ones to call on first. Instead of spending an hour mentally filtering loads, you'll have a prioritized shortlist in 2 minutes.
What you'll need
Open your browser and go to claude.ai. Tap "Sign Up" and create a free account with your email. Verify your email, then log in.
What you should see: A chat interface — a text box at the bottom where you type and Claude responds.
Troubleshooting: If you can't receive verification emails, check your spam folder.
Tap the pencil/new chat icon in the top left. You'll get a fresh conversation. This is where you'll set up your criteria.
In the text box, type your business details. You can copy and customize this template:
I'm a CDL-A truck driver / owner-operator. Here's my business profile:
Equipment: 53' dry van (or flatbed / reefer — update this)
Home base: [Your city, state]
Preferred lanes: [Your preferred routes, e.g., "Midwest to Southeast, Texas triangle"]
Minimum rate: $[X.XX]/mile
Preferred load types: [e.g., "no hazmat, no oversized, prefer drop-and-hook"]
Blacklisted brokers: [List any brokers you won't work with]
Target deadhead: No more than [X] miles to pickup
Truck capacity: [max weight, e.g., 44,000 lbs]
When I paste loads from the load board, rank them from best to worst based on these criteria and explain your reasoning briefly for the top 3 choices.
What you should see: Claude will confirm it understood your criteria and say it's ready to evaluate loads.
Now open your DAT Load Board app or Truckstop.com. Screenshot or write down 5-10 loads you see available right now. Paste them into Claude in this format:
Here are today's loads from DAT. Please rank them:
1. Dallas TX → Memphis TN, 470 mi, $1,050 ($2.23/mi), dry van, Broker: Atlas Freight, pickup tomorrow
2. Houston TX → Atlanta GA, 790 mi, $1,500 ($1.90/mi), dry van, Broker: Echo Global, pickup today
3. San Antonio TX → Chicago IL, 1,200 mi, $2,800 ($2.33/mi), flatbed, Broker: Coyote, 2 day pickup
4. Fort Worth TX → Nashville TN, 640 mi, $1,350 ($2.11/mi), dry van, Broker: XPO, pickup tomorrow
What you should see: Claude ranks the loads, explains why (rate, equipment match, lane preference, broker reputation), and flags any issues (blacklisted broker, wrong equipment type, too much deadhead).
Troubleshooting: If Claude gives a generic answer, say "Remember my business profile — I don't work with [broker name] and my minimum is $X/mile."
You can then ask Claude:
Bookmark this Claude conversation or keep it open. Each time you check the load board, scroll up to your original criteria setup to remind yourself it's there, then paste new loads. Claude retains the context within a single conversation.
For even better persistence, consider upgrading to Claude Pro ($20/month) which gives you Claude Projects — a permanent memory for your business profile that persists across every conversation.
Filter today's loads from Dallas: "Here are 12 loads I found on DAT from Dallas today. Rank them based on my criteria: [paste loads]"
Evaluate a single load: "Is this worth calling on? Load from Phoenix AZ to Denver CO, 600 miles, $1,450 ($2.42/mi), dry van, Echo Global, pickup in 6 hours."
Plan a weekly route: "I'm in Atlanta and have to be back in Houston by Saturday. What 3-load sequence from the board makes sense to maximize revenue while getting home?"
Get negotiation prep: "Load #2 is close but $0.15/mi below my minimum. What counter should I make and why?"
Flag red flags: "Look at these 5 rate confirmations I received. Are there any missing clauses or concerning terms I should know about before signing?"
